Motivation and encouragement are two very important aspects in learning a new language or improving a mother tongue.   The teacher, at whatever grade the student has reached in a language, should stress this.  Reading can be a pleasurable activity and it can be a wonderful learning experience – if, that is, the individual pays attention to what he/she is reading.

Pleasure can come from the discovery of the meaning of words (with the help sometimes of a dictionary), the power that words can lend to writing or speech and how they can help to explain the significance of a subject.  It has been argued that students who read regularly and quite happily by themselves, achieve more than those who do not follow this line.   By following this idea of reading, think of the sense of accomplishment the individual will feel.
